Electromagnets

Selecting the RIGHT Electromagnet: There are many variables that must be considered in the selection of a proper magnet. To help you get the best magnet for your application, you should review the following information. More...

Common Applications: Holding - Lifting - Automation.

Electromagnets - Small Flat-Faced: Round | Rectangular
Round and rectangular flat-faced electromagnets are available in a variety of sizes. Flat-faced magnets should only be used on flat, smooth material where the entire magnet face is in contact. Can be used in manually operated or automated applications.

Magnets listed utilize D.C. current. Pounds pull rating are maximum on low carbon steel at magnetic saturation. Rectifier-Controllers are required to convert A.C. Iine current to D.C., provide switching, and incorporate a release function which allows clean release of the workpiece. 12 VDC (except EM-476) is standard voltage. 24 VDC is optional at no cost. Other D.C. voltages are available upon request. Consult us for additional sizes, modifications, and custom applications.

Electromagnets - Small Bi-Polar
The magnetic field of bi-polar magnets have a greater "reach out" than that of flat-faced electromagnets. For this reason, they perform better than equivalent flat-faced magnets when operating through an air gap or any type of non-magnetic material between the workpiece and the magnet. Bi-polars, due to their two extended poles, are designed to handle round parts, parts with uneven surfaces, and odd-shaped parts. Contoured, auxiliary pole shoes can be added for better contact with the workpiece.

Electromagnets - Lifting
Round Lifting Electromagnets are intended to lift solid, compact material such as billets, steel plate, bars, forgings, etc. Standard units are not intended for handling scrap or small parts. Can be used individually or in multiples on a spreader bar. Consult factory for these applications. Rectifier Controllers can be mounted on magnets #EM-6 through #EM-16. The EM-20 requires a free standing rectifier controller. A remote control switch with 6'0" cord is optional on all units with rectifiers. Lifting capacities shown are for low carbon steel at magnetic saturation with a surface finish equivalent to cold rolled steel. All ratings include a 2:1 safety factor. Do not exceed rated capacity.

Electromagnets - Rectifier Controllers
Electromagnets require direct current power for operation. Whether used in manual or automated handling of ferrous parts, they must release the work as readily as they attract and hold. Release is a function of the rectifier and not the magnet.

These rectifiers incorporate a provision for reverse current that ensures positive release of even those alloy steels which are magnetically retentive. Variable power and remote control are available. Rectifiers and rectifier-controllers are designed to provide reliable D.C. power for industrial electromagnets and electromagnet chucks.

Electromagnets - Battery Operated Lifts
Their self-contained power source allows them to be operated anywhere inside or outside the plant. Chains and slings are unnecessary. Operation of these magnets does not depend on an electric power source.
